Using the HFO Feed

What are Feeds?

Our feed advises you when we add new notices to our website. By subscribing to the Historic formula One web site feed, you can be automatically notified of new notices when they are published on our website.

Feeds are also known as RSS which stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. In essence, the feed is a web page which is sent to your computer. The page contains brief information about our latest notice and provides a link to the full item on our website.

How do I start using your feed?

You will need a news reader. Newer email programs already incorporate RSS readers and are perhaps the most convenient and easiest way to receive RSS feeds.

RSS Icon

You will see this icon in the address bar, or in one of the toolbars of most web browsers when you are looking at the pages on our site. (If you are using an Apple Safari browser you will see the letters ‘RSS’ in white on a blue background). Clicking on the icon will bring up our feed.

You can also install a RSS reader application. This checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are different types of readers: some are accessed using a browser, and others are discrete standalone applications. Here is a sample of some current RSS readers:

News Readers
Windows Mac OS X Web Email Clients
Newz Crawler Newsfire Bloglines Microsoft Outlook 2007 (Win)
FeedDemon NetNewsWire Feedzilla Apple Mail 3 (Mac)
Awasu - NewsGator Thunderbird Win & Mac
- - iGoogle -
- - Page Flakes -

Can’t I Just Use My Email Programme?

Yes you can, if it supports RSS. Outlook and Apple Mail do. Depending on the way you like to organise things, this is often the neatest way to do it.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 / Apple Mail 3

If you have the latest version of Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express or Windows Mail) you can simply add our RSS feed so you will receive email-like notifications of our new ASX announcements. You can use Apple Mail too if you have a Mac running Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard) or better. Other modern email clients tend to be able to handle RSS too.

Our feed is at http://feeds2.feedburner.com/hfofeed and you can find out more information on how to add it to your copy of Microsoft Outlook 2007 here and to Apple Mail 3 here and a video tip here.

Subscribe to Our Email Service

If you have an older email client (programme) that doesn’t handle RSS, you can still receive our email updates. Simply add your email address to the form below and submit it. Our email notification service is run by Feedburner and uses the RSS feed to email you at the address you provide. You will receive only one email a day when more than one HFO notice is published but it will give details of all the notices.

Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

You may unsubscribe from this service using a link at the foot of each email or message.

How Soon After You Post a New Notice on the Website Will I Be Notified?

It takes about 30 minutes for the feed to update. Once it has, the detail will be available to you directly within the software that you chose to receive your feed, like News Readers, Outlook 2007 and Apple Mail 3. Our email service sends out notifications between 7pm and 9pm UK Time each day.

Feed for HFO Drivers, Teams and Officials

There is a separate feed for HFO drivers, teams and officials. It deals with essential and important administrative competition information items.
